The second half of the weekend was endlessly dark and overcast, and all I managed to do was to get some colors mixed for what might be another study of sunflowers. One moment of excitement included realizing that I’d caught a large skunk in the squirrel trap. What seemed like imminent disaster was instead a fairly simple challenge of slowly approaching the trap with a towel in front of me, like some kind of backwoods toreador. I managed to prop the trap door open and retreated without incident. I persuaded the animal to leave the trap with a small garden hose rainstorm, and the day went back to normal, or at least as normal as my days ever are.
